*Please join the MSU Superfund Data Management and Analysis Core for a seminar on Wednesday, September 20, 2023. Dr. Christopher Meyer, PhD, Center for Translational Data Science, University of Chicago, will present “Cooperative Data Science in the Cloud: the Gen3 Platform for Creating Data Commons” at 9:30 a.m. in 162 Food Safety and Toxicology Building.
Chris Meyer from the Center for Translational Data Science (CTDS) at the University of Chicago will introduce and discuss the Gen3 software, which is a free, open source platform for creating data commons. A data commons is a cloud-based software platform for managing, analyzing, harmonizing, and sharing large datasets. The Gen3 software aims to empower research groups at any scale, including small groups of researchers with a modest budget and IT resources, to independently create their own data commons in order to accelerate and democratize the process of scientific discovery. The Gen3 platform achieves this by creating an environment for making data FAIR: findable using cross-project queries, accessible through open APIs, interoperable through data harmonization and query/analysis gateways, and reusable through built-in analysis workspaces and apps. Finally, since Gen3 is open source, the research community is now becoming actively involved in its continued development. Learn more at: https://gen3.org/.
