Research Interests:
Kupffer cells, the resident macrophages of the liver, are able to become activated in response to endogenous molecular signals from damaged cells. My research investigates the mechanism of activation of Kupffer cells to cellular damage. I am exploring whether Kupffer cells are able to directly sense molecular signals from damaged cells or if other distinct cell types of the liver are first able to recognize signals from damaged cells as the initial step of a pathway that eventually leads to Kupffer cell activation.
