Research Interests:
Dr. Uhal works in the areas of lung epithelial stem cell function; regulation of epithelial cell death (apoptosis); and molecular mechanisms of lung fibrogenesis and repair.

Selected Professional Activities:
Dr. Uhal has been a manuscript and grant reviewer for the NIH, British Lung Foundation, the Health Research Board of Ireland, and the Swiss National Science Foundation. He regularly is an Invited Speaker at international symposia on lung fibrosis/injury mechanisms. Dr. Uhal received the 1999-2000, House Staff Appreciation Award, Michael Reese Hospital, Michael Reese Hospital, Chicago, research mentoring; and the 1996-1999, Career Investigator Award, American Lung Association of Metropolitan Chicago:, Rush Medical College, Chicago. He completed postdoctoral training at Pennsylvania State University in cellular and molecular physiology. He has professional affiliations with the American Heart Association, the American Physiological Society and the International Society for Analytical Cytology. Dr. Uhal is a faculty trainer for the NIEHS training grant.
